"Fruit of the Bloom"
Acrylic on canvas
In the summer of 2006 I became a member of the Chroma working artist's program. I signed up at a local art fair and a week later I received a box of pigments and various mediums. The idea was that I and other artists would discover the medium by working with it for several weeks, all the while taking work notes and digital pics of the results of my labors. I had a basic idea of what to do with traditional acrylics but had never worked with Chroma Atelier Interactives before. These pigments with all of the mediums offer a wonderful range of applications and I found myself drawn into the studio, like a kid in a candy shop. A few months later I became a Chroma TAPP (teaching artist program participant). About this same time, I went to a marketing workshop where all of the attending artists were challenged to do a series of 25 or more paintings of the same subject matter. I had hundreds of photos and sketches of various Agave plants in the area so I decided to base my series on the Agave. I chose to bring the subject up close and abstract from the organic form.
I'm still painting this fabulous flora, although I have begun another series of Texas flora based on the prickly pare cactus. I was recently thrilled to be given a professional page at chromaonline. Please visit my page to view the ongoing Agave images. To view more imagery from my days in the studio as a Chroma working artist visit my Chroma TAPP page. I would love to share what I have learned about this fabulous Chroma product!
Awesome Sal!
