Travel for Artistic Inspiration

Every summer I travel to my home state of Colorado. I love taking road trips and along the way I sketch and take pictures to use as references when I go home to my studio. My quick thumbnail sketches and the hundreds of photos that I take serve as inspiration when I begin to recapture the journey in my studio.
Each year I fly to Albuquerque, NM and drive up HWY 550 to Bloomfield, NM and then on to my family home near Durango, CO. From there I drive up the "million dollar highway" to Silverton, Ouray, and Telluride, CO.
I have a history with each of these places since I grew up in Durango, Colorado. It's interesting to be traveling through...a tourist in my home state. It is so refreshing to be in the mountains again. I always stop at Ghost Ranch, NM, on the return trip if only for a brief rest. I have previously stayed there in the fall for painting excursions and the imagery never fades. When I return to my studio in Volente, TX, I paint my impressions of the road trip destination and the places I traveled through on my way home to Colorado.

  1. Beautiful artwork! You see incredible depth and color in all of mother nature's creations, big and small :) I'm proud to say I'm your daughter. Keep up the great work!
